Photos Surrounding Perling Mall, Johor Bahru

Below are photos of area that surrounds Perling Mall in Johor Bahru. This area seems to have relaxed and easy going atmosphere. There are many old shops, eating outlets and even a day wet market; where you can get fresh vegetables, seafood and meat.

Econ Nursing home is located opposite Perling Mall. The new Amerin Hotel is also opposite Perling Mall. And next to the mall itself is the CW3 bus terminal. The CW3 bus goes to Bukit Indah and Singapore. There is also a KFC outlet behind Amerin Hotel. This is one of the most spacious KFC outlet I have ever seen. There is also a school nearby - SJK ( C) Pei Hwa.

Streets of Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru

Here are some photos of Permas Jaya which I took while waiting along the streets. There seems to be lots of food outlets, car repairs/serving workshops and massage health centers here. I started my walk from Renaissance Hotel and slowly walking my way to MacDonald's; and walking around the small streets. You can literally covered the whole area in an hour.

If you are going to Aeon Mall, head down to MacDonald's and then walk to the back of the building where you can see busy main road. Cross the overhead bridge and you will reach the Aeon Mall's big car park. The Aeon Mall in Permas Jaya is a older, single storey mall. There is a supermarket, food court, lots of F&B outlets but limited fashion stores.

Meal at Restoran Sayed near Perling Mall, Johor Bahru

Took a quick light meal with my friend in the afternoon at coffee shop called Restoran Sayed near Perling Mall. To locate this Indian coffee shop, go to the mall main entrance with Secret Recipe on your left. So with the door of the main entrance of the mall behind your back and Secret Recipe cafe on your left, just walk left on a straight minor road. Restoran Sayed is just a five minutes walking distance from the mall.

The food that I ate may not be the best that I have tasted in Johor Bahru. But it was good for a quick meal and the prices were economical too. There are a wide variety of Indian food that you can choose; and a equally big variety of cold/hot drinks as well. Service was fast and this Indian coffee shop seems to be busy with customers flowing in.

Stay at Amerin Hotel, Johor Bahru

Amerin Hotel is a new hotel located opposite Perling Mall in Johor Bahru. Here is the video of the King Size Bed Deluxe room which I had recently stayed.

Angry Birds Activity Park at Komtar JBCC

Visited Komtar JBCC Mall and saw this Angry Birds Activity Park at Level 3 of the mall. It is great to have an activity theme park for kids so conveniently located in Johor Bahru Sentral - it is just minutes walk away from the Johor Bahru Customs and Excise building.

I didn't visited the theme park as I was with adult group at that time; doing our shopping at Komtar JBCC.   Anyway, here are some photos of this Angry Birds Activity Park.

Church of the Immaculate Conception, Johor Bahru

While I was staying at Doubletree by Hilton at Johor Bahru, I saw a old church next to the hotel. Found out that it was the Church of the Immaculate Conception. I understand that it is a historical Roman Catholic with a rich history dating more than 100 years.

Interesting there is also a school next to the church. The name of the school is S J K (C) St. Joseph, which is a primary school. The school has a large field compound.

I took an aerial view photos of the Church of the Immaculate Conception - taken from the swimming pool area of Doubletree by Hilton JB. I liked the colonial style of building structure of this church. I do hope to be able to visit it in the near future.

You Kee XO Restaurant at KSL Mall

My friend told me to try out a roast duck restaurant - You Kee XO Restaurant at KSL Mall. I was told that this branch outlet was recently opened. He said that he liked the Roast Duck and Char Siew from this restaurant.

So I went and ordered a small portion of XO Roast duck, BBQ Crystal Char Siew and Claypot beancurd. I wanted to order the soup of the day; but it was sold out.  However I spoke to a lone lady diner who as having the soup of the day, on her opinion of the soup. She told me it was OK except the soup was a little too salty.

I tasted the food and here are my views - the XO Roast duck meat was quite tough. Was the duck supposed to be marinated with XO cognac? If it was so, then I am not able to smell or taste the cognac flavor on the roasted duck. The Crystal Char Siew looks good; however it was too sweet for my liking. The Claypot Beancurd was the Star of my meal. It was really good - I loved the freshness of the beancurd and eggplant; with its natural taste.

Anyway, all of us have unique preference and taste with regard to food. So long as you are happy eating the food you liked, that is all that matters. Next time, I would liked to try the roast duck that a vendor is selling on the night market / pasar malam opposite KSL mall - see last photo below.
